Through over 150+ original content episodes across 2+ years, we built the Nowhere Men Facebook series to 250,000+ global fans and became top featured Facebook creators. We told the stories of everyday New Yorkers who inspired us — tamale cart vendors, shoe shiners, delivery drivers and more. We challenged ourselves to create one short doc a week, iterating based on the real-time feedback of social media audiences and putting our storytelling muscles on steroids.
By the superpower of great storytelling alone, we racked up 40M+ organic video views, and I learned the profound impact storytelling can have on everyone involved — the subject, the viewers, and the people making it (me).
When I first called James, he threatened that if I ever revealed the address of his animal sanctuary… bad things would happen to me. We spent a wild day with James, feeding baby squirrels in his car and sourcing Chinese food for his 20+ dogs. Even with 14M+ viewers, we never revealed James’ address. Ultimately, this video helped James raise enough money to purchase a big plot of land in Pennsylvania, move out of Brooklyn, and create the grand sanctuary of his dreams. All through the power of great storytelling!
